Mrs. Cadoret's Homeroom

Mrs. Cadoret's class filled their ping pong ball jar by working together as a class community. So we've decided on having a potluck lunch this Friday, 12/21. Students have signed up to bring in different items. Please let me know if you are unable to bring in the item (s) your child volunteered to bring in. Looking forward to a delicious lunch!

The students have officially studied all the regions of the United States and the states and capitals within each region. Now it's time to put their knowledge to the test! This Friday, December 21 students will take their final test on all 50 states and capitals. There will be no packet this week. Please encourage your son/ daughter to study. If they want they can get onto our social studies google classroom and play some geographical games for practice!

We will also be determining our 2 students who will represent fifth grade in our school Geography Bee this week. The school Geo Bee will take place at a later date in January. TBA

States & Capitals!

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

Our next focus will center on the United States, its specific regions and capitals as well as wrapping up our mapping skills.
During our study of the United States, we will try to become familiar with our country’s geographical features and specific characteristics of each state. One of the goals during our state study will be for each child to attempt to learn all 50 states, their capitals and be able to locate them on an unmarked map. We will do this as non-threatening as possible by breaking the states into regions and by learning one region at a time. Your child will be given packets of information to complete each region on certain dates as part of their weekly homework assignment. These will be due back each Friday. Students, however, may hand them back earlier than that if the packet’s completed. Each student will also receive a study guide for them to learn the correct placement and capitals for their quiz each week. We will be reviewing these in the classroom. Students will need to study each night to be prepared for their weekly quiz.
Hopefully each child will reach this goal and have fun doing it. For some this may be difficult, so I am hoping that for these students that they will end knowing more than what they did prior to starting our study. I do not want this to be a frustrating or threatening to any of the students. I would stress that they should be able to know the Northeastern region since it is the area in which they live.
Thank you for all your extra help, support, and encouragement throughout span of time. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact me any time.
